Desktop Credit Applications

Back in the 90's, Merit Credit Systems was a major provider of Windows desktop software, used by thousands of financial institutions, auto dealers, tenant screening, employee screening, insurance companies, and others to retrieve consumer credit reports, mostly by modem connections.

Desktop software for credit retrieval has given way to Internet websites hosted by the three credit reporting agencies. We recommend that most companies seeking fewer than 1000 credit reports per month use the bureaus' Internet portals to meet their needs for individual credit checks.

Since the early 2000s, the focus of Merit Systems is larger users who pull multiple thousands of credit reports per month, and who seek to automate the process. We work directly with developers of custom in-house credit decision systems who seek a credit API (application programming interface.)

The Merit Credit Engine software typically runs as a background Windows service, and our software users create their own desktop or website interfaces for the purpose of requesting and viewing credit reports.
